Callie Duritsa Boswell, MA World War II Historian & Documentarian

Bringing Forgotten Legacies to Life. Crafting Spaces for Healing. Empowering Resilience.

Privilege be damned. December 7, 1941

Behind the military brass, behind the entrenched New Deal politicos, behind the U.S. diplomats the world over—you will find a group of fabulous, but now forgotten women: their long devoted, and at times, highly adversarial wives.

These were powerful women. Confident, opinionated, hardworking. Some spoiled and demure, others literary, musical, and athletic.

And in a time of perhaps the greatest national wave of patriotism, and not unlike the most uniquely outspoken and undeniably earnest and hardworking First Lady to date in American life, Eleanor Roosevelt, each was tirelessly duty-driven and uncomplaining. Well, mostly.
